The Cottage was originally the kitchen for Magnolia Manor when the house was built. It was only two rooms at that time with one half the building used as living quarters for slaves. The other half contained a large fireplace or "oven" where the food was cooked. There was a trolley between the Cottage and the main house that would carry the pots across the yard to the pantry. There the food was placed in the serving dishes and presented in the dining room. Sometime ago the Cottage was divided into four rooms. Modern conveniences such as a bathroom, and kitchen of it's own were added. It was rented as a one bedroom apartment until just a few years ago. The Cottage had suffered years of neglect and was in dire need of repair. The entire floor had to be replaced throughout the little house. What you see today is the result of many hours of work by a professional crew of highly skilled carpenters and Elaine herself. The decor is all Elaine. Some of the light fixtures are originally from the main house when it was converted from gas light to electric. Now with a fresh, elegant but historic look and feel, The Cottage is available for your enjoyment. Featuring beautiful antiques, a gas log fire place, satellite television and access to the backyard and gazebo, The Cottage gives you the feel of Magnolia Manor with a touch of extra privacy. Plus the convenience of having your own kitchen and private drive. Breakfast is either a short walk across the yard to the main house, or we'll bring it to you in your little home away from home.
